However, many of these services are focused on luxury or high-end fashion, and there is a gap in the market for a more accessible and user-friendly rental and resale app for everyday clothing.

Project Overview

To design a mobile app that allows users to easily rent and sell clothing, and also includes an AI closet feature to help users make the most of their existing wardrobe.

Problem Statement

Retail customers often struggle with finding the right clothes to purchase and wear. They may have a hard time visualizing how an item will look on them or may struggle to find items that fit their style and budget. As a result, they may end up purchasing items that they do not end up wearing or that do not fit well, leading to customer frustration and returns.

Methodology

Research: Conduct user research to understand the needs and pain points of potential users of a clothing rental and resale app. This can include surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Analyze the data to identify key user personas and their goals and motivations. Research existing clothing rental and resale apps and identify their strengths and weaknesses.

Ideation: Use the research insights to generate a wide range of ideas for the app's features and design. Use brainstorming sessions and design thinking techniques to encourage creative thinking and collaboration.

Prototyping: Create low-fidelity wireframes and sketches to visualize the app's layout and functionality. Use these prototypes to test basic concepts and user flows with potential users.

User testing: Conduct usability testing with potential users to gather feedback on the prototypes. Use this feedback to iterate on the design and fine-tune the user experience.

High-fidelity design: Create high-fidelity mockups and wireframes of the final app design, taking into account the feedback from user testing. Include detailed specifications for developers.

Development: Use the high-fidelity designs as a guide to develop the app's front-end and back-end. Use agile development methodologies to ensure that the development process is flexible and responsive to changing requirements.

AI Closet feature: Develop an algorithm that uses machine learning to analyze the user's wardrobe, and make recommendations on how to mix and match different items to create new outfits.

Quality assurance: Test the app thoroughly to ensure that it is free of bugs and that it meets the requirements.

Deployment: Launch the app on the app stores and monitor its performance. Use analytics and user feedback to identify areas for improvement and iterate on the design and features.

Key Features & Impacts

The app will have a clean and minimalist design, with a focus on high-quality images of the clothing. The rental and resale feature will be prominently displayed on the home screen, with easy access to browsing and listing clothing. The AI closet feature will be accessible from a separate tab and will use a mix of images and text to display recommendations. The social aspect will be incorporated throughout the app, with a feed of users' outfits and recommendations.

Conclusion

Overall, the project was a success, with the app providing a sleek and intuitive user experience for customers of the fashion retail company. By conducting thorough user research, prioritizing simplicity and elegance, and maintaining brand consistency, I was able to design an app that met the needs of the company and its customers. By adding an AI closet feature to a retail app, we can help customers find clothes that fit their style and body type, leading to a better shopping experience and fewer returns. Through user research, prototyping, and testing, we can design and build a feature that meets the needs of our target customers and enhances the overall retail app experience.
